Set of 4 vitage dining chairs by Fristho Model D made in the 1960s. Dutch Design from Friesland. Dimensions: Back height: 79 cm Seat height: 46 cm Width: 47.8 cm Depth: 48 cm The chairs have minor traces of use appropriate to their age. The upholstery is still original and very clean. Fristho is the name of a former Dutch company that made furniture. The Friesche Stoel- en Houtwarenfabriek started production in Huizum in 1920 and expansion in Franeker followed in 1923. Furniture factory Bergschenhoek was acquired in 1954. In 1971, the company moved to a new, modern factory in Heerlen. In 1978, Fristho went bankrupt. In 1945, the eponymous son of the founder became the director of Fristho: Arnould Jean Baptist Merckx (1912-2006). After the difficult reconstruction years, he decided to make furniture that fit the 'Mid - Century modern' style. With designs by the American William Watting and the Danish Inger Klingenberg, among others, and with the partnership of Kho Liang Ie and Wim Crouwel, he consistently chose Scandinavian and contemporary design.
