Behrens developed the cross-swinging chair, a piece of seating and reclining furniture (shown here as a bar stool) that can swing evenly forwards and backwards without a mechanism and adapts to any change in posture.
Behrens planned and built industrial, administrative, residential and religious buildings and revolutionized social housing. He taught design, building construction, architectural theory, urban and landscape planning, product design and design at the University of Stuttgart, the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main, the University of Kassel and the University of Applied Sciences Wiesbaden. The bar stools show slight signs of age-related wear such as isolated, unobtrusive scratches.
