Beautiful, slender decorative porcelain vase with a... Sgraffitto technique incised female head. These types of vases were bought as souvenirs by tourists in Italy in the 1960s, but they have now become more and more collector's items. The vase has an elegant design throughout; the woman's head is delicately carved; at the top it has a beveled V-shaped top with an oval opening. The head is black with white incised gossamer lines and a hint of yellow and blue at the bottom. The vase has the inscription 'Esperia Italy', the name of the studio where it was made. Info 1: Sgraffito is a decorative art technique used in painting, pottery and glass. This involves working with multiple (plaster) layers of different colors. After the various layers have been applied, the top layer is scratched in such a way that a pattern or shape emerges that has the color of the layer below it. The word sgraffito comes from Italian and means 'to scratch' or 'to scratch'. The technique has been used in the past in Renaissance buildings in northern Italy and southern Germany. In Art Nouveau, the process was frequently used as facade decoration. Dimensions: H = 32 cm, D(iam) top = 5 cm, D(iam) bottom = 12 cm.
