Gaetano Sciolari is widely regarded as one of the most innovative, prolific and eclectic lighting designers of the space age. Born and living in Italy, Sciolari created several celebrated designs for lighting company Stilnovo and also collaborated with Goffredo Reggiani. His pieces enjoyed worldwide success and were imported into the US by Lightolier and Progress Lighting. It is not uncommon to see his designs in mansions around the world, as well as on TV shows set in the 1970s and 80s. He worked almost exclusively with metal. His most famous and prized designs are those in silver-plated tubes, cubes or spheres - both glossy/chrome-plated and matt. He confronted all kinds of lighting, from chandeliers and sconces to floor and table lamps. This lamp is indeed a chandelier, built around a hexagonal module with a total of 13 lights. It is perfectly preserved and in full working order, and comes complete with the 13 light bulbs. The cable currently has a plug, but can of course be connected directly to a ceiling wiring.
